The Happy Blue School took to the road and ventured to the Harties Cableway in the Hartebeestpoort Dam area about a 45 minute drive outside of Johannesburg today.
It was a stunning, spring day.
We had heard about the cable way that had reopened last year after a complete renovation. The cableway had originally opened in 1973. However, it fell into disrepair over the years and closed in 2005; just before our arrival in South Africa in 2006. So, our family had never had the opportunity to take a ride on the aerial cable car. Since our Jake is always game to climb to great heights, we decided to make it a Friday morning and afternoon outing.
The boys couldn’t wait to board one of the emerald green cable cars.
Once we reached the top, we had incredible panoramic views of the Magaliesberg Mountains, the Hartebeestpoort dam and the surrounding areas below.
The boys liked walking along the Dassie Loop trail and exploring the base station at the top of the mountain.
Parasailing is a common recreational feature. However, there were none to be seen on the day of our visit.
We had a great day visiting the Harties Cableway and everyone said that they’d like to come back and do it all again some day! It was a fun way to end our week and enjoy a bit of playtime together as a family.
