An Unexpected Birthday Gift – For Me!

Birthday Present

I stared at the words.

Tears brimmed and then overflowed from my eyes.

My heart melted.

It was my birthday. And to my amazement, my God gave me a birthday present.

What did He do?

My God affirmed my purpose.

Just look at the verses He brought to my attention yesterday morning:

“My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” New International Version, Colossians 2:2-3.

If ever there were words that supported the desires and motivation of my heart and life’s work, Paul completely captured them and presented them to me yesterday.

I am passionate about encouraging others in their faith walk in Christ.

To encourage comes from the Greek transliterated word, parakelo. Parakelo means to be near, to come alongside, and to walk with another person with words of comfort, words of strength, and words of exhortation.

I absolutely love that!

My heart’s desire is to be near my family and friends and listen to their hearts. And if possible, provide a word of blessing that will knit their hearts with Christ.  There is no greater joy in my life than to see my family and friends experiencing the assurance and peace of Christ in their lives regardless of their life circumstances. Matthew Henry calls this kind of living; soul prosperity. Our souls prosper when we know Christ and embrace His love and care in every aspect of our lives. When every other kind of world comfort fails us, Christ does not. He fills us with a comfort, joy, peace, and assurance that surpasses all understanding.

This truth is what I want everyone to know! And never, ever, ever doubt!

Almost two years ago, I came to grips with my mortality. Cancer entered my life and its presence alerted me to the possibility that my life on earth may end sooner than I ever expected. Honestly, I wasn’t ready to die then. And truth be told, I am still not ready to depart this earth. I am not cancer-secure yet (I need to reach the five year mark of being cancer-free). November will commemorate my second anniversary. So, I guess, I’m very cognizant of the fact that every day I am given on earth counts for something.

This life purpose was affirmed on my birthday.

Keep encouraging the hearts of others.

Keep sharing Christ’s love.

Keep learning and growing in the word of God.

Keep investing in the souls of others for eternity.

What an amazing gift of life and purpose I have been bestowed for another year. I do not take it for granted. Thank you, Friends, for choosing to be a part of it with me! I love you and even more importantly, Jesus Christ loves you too!
